Background
Darwin Ecology designed and constructed three replacement bat roosts for BAE Systems in Bridgewater, Somerset. A manufacturing plant had been decommissioned and was to be replaced with a sustainable business park.
Our role
Several low-level bat roosts were destroyed under a bat mitigation licence implemented by Ecology Solutions Ltd. As a specialist ecological contractor, Darwin Ecology worked in partnership with them to build the new 5x4m roosts on redundant pillboxes.
We optimised all three pillboxes for bat use. They each provide diverse access points into crevices, voids and roosting areas while minimising heat loss to create a safe and comfortable space for bats.
